How much does BJJ cost at Not Bad BJJ?
Adult membership is $180/month for unlimited classes — gi, no-gi, competition, open mat. Kids (ages 6-13) are $180/month. Family plans start at $310/month for two members. Drop-in is $25 per class. Your first class is free.
What age can kids start jiu-jitsu?
Our kids program runs as a single mixed-age class for ages 6-13. Kids under 6 rarely have the attention span to get real value from a structured BJJ class. If you have a younger child interested, we're happy to talk about when to start — it's usually a matter of readiness, not exact age.
Is BJJ safe for kids?
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is one of the safest martial arts for children because there is no striking. Kids learn to control, position, and defend — they do not learn to punch or kick. Our kids class has a strict coach-to-student ratio, live rolling happens only under direct coach supervision, and every session ends with a debrief. Injury rates in youth BJJ are lower than in soccer, football, and gymnastics.
How often should a BJJ beginner train?
Two classes per week is the sweet spot for a beginner. It is enough to build muscle memory and progress steadily without burning out or overwhelming your body. Our curriculum is designed so a 2-day-a-week student stays on track with the material. Once you have three to six months in, you can bump to three or four days if you want.
Do I need to be in shape to start BJJ?
No. Everyone starts somewhere. Our Adult Fundamentals class is designed for people whose only prior training is walking to their car. Jiu-jitsu builds functional strength, mobility, and cardio as a byproduct of the training itself — most students find they get in the best shape of their life without ever setting foot in a traditional gym.
What do I need to bring to my first class?
Water bottle and athletic clothes you can move in. Nothing else. We loan gis to new students for the first few classes. When you decide to stay, we will help you pick one — no upsell.
Do you require a long-term contract?
No. Every membership is month-to-month. You can pause for up to three months per year for injury, travel, or life. Just email us. No paperwork drama.
Is there a difference between gi and no-gi BJJ?
Yes. In gi (kimono) training you grip the fabric, use grips as leverage and defense, and the pace is generally slower and more strategic. No-gi has no fabric to hold — pace is faster, wrestling and scrambles matter more, and modern leg-lock techniques are more common. We run two gi sessions and three no-gi sessions per week so you can try both.
Where in Cobb County are you located?
The gym is opening in Cobb County, Georgia — serving Kennesaw, Acworth, Marietta, and the surrounding area. The exact address is being finalized and will be posted here as soon as the lease is signed.
How do you promote belts? What is your belt system?
Belts are earned on the mat, not sold in packages. We follow the standard International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (IBJJF) belt system: white, blue, purple, brown, black for adults; the youth belt track (white through gray/orange/yellow/green) for kids. Promotions are based on demonstrated skill and time on the mat, taken seriously, and awarded when the student is ready — not when a schedule says.
Do you have a competition team?
Yes. We prep for IBJJF, New Breed Jiu Jitsu Federation, ADCC events, and local Georgia tournaments. Competition team is open to any student who wants to compete — it includes dedicated training sessions plus open mat and video review. Talk to a coach to sign up.
